three mason jars and a microphone

8 Sep

We got married last week. The reception was outdoors at a park in the city where I grew up, and took place on one of the last hot days of summer here. The day before the wedding, my mom, sister, maid of honor, and I ran around like crazy, picking up flowers from various grocery stores and farmers markets and picking dahlias and zinnias from the garden. The morning of the wedding, my cousin put together the mason jars for us. They’re perched here on the music table – my brother-in-law DJed the wedding from his MacBook (and played bartender) and my talented brother was our photographer. Our wedding was a family affair and truly a labor of love.

The colors in this photograph remind me of how hot and sunny (and windy!) our wedding day was, with temperatures near 90 degrees. Less than two weeks later, we’re facing chilly autumn air, the smell of bonfires in the air, and all the greenery changing to red and orange and gold.
