end of the wedding: late afternoon sunlight

14 Sep

I’ve been getting our wedding photographs from my brother in small batches, and so far, this is one of my favorite shots from the day:

These tissue pom poms were strung above the picnic tables at our reception, and became a fun prop at the end of the day!

A word of advice: make sure you have very sturdy, heavy duty twine to hang these up – not because they are heavy, of course, but because you never know what the weather will be. The whole time we were wedding planning, I was worried about stormy weather, or extreme temperatures, since Minnesota summers can be so unpredictable. Well, we didn’t have any storms, but it was definitely very hot, and very windy. My family and our two friends who were helping set up the reception site the morning of the wedding had quite a lot of stress and headaches because of the wind, and the fishing wire and twine I had packed for the poms either sagged or broke (obviously, I’m not a fisher – who knew the fishing wire would sag under the weight of tissue poms?!). My dad had to run home for his super-duper twine to do the trick, and our hardworking friends fixed it even as my family ran home to get ready for the ceremony.

Did anyone else have an outdoor reception and crazy weather that interfered with all your beautiful plans? How did you handle it?
