The pattern comes from Adrienne Krey, and is called Blue Leaf Headband. You can search for and download the pattern from ravelry.com (membership is free). This is the perfect knitting pattern to whip up some last-minute gifts! I made one last week, and it took just a few hours, give or take. I like this as an alternative to a hat in cold weather, because it keeps my ears warm without giving me hat hair. It’s also perfect for beginning knitters, because gauge doesn’t really matter, and you can use any weight yarn. If you can cast on, knit, and purl, you’ve got this. I’m sorry I don’t have any good pictures of my completed headband yet, but you can check out the finished product at the pattern link above. [Update: picture here].
If you’re new to knitting but know the basics, these You Tube video tutorials from Brittany, aka theknitwitch, might be helpful as you do this project: m1R (make 1 right), m1L (make 1 left), yo (yarn over), ssk (slip slip knit), and k2tog (knit 2 together). She’s my go-to person for You Tube tutorials when it comes to knitting. Her instructions are usually really helpful and clear, and the videos are good quality, too, so you can really see what she’s doing.
I finished a dark blue headband last night. I was so excited to be done that I just used an old coat button to finish it off, but I think I might go find some cute wooden buttons for the next one I’m making. The red one above is one I just started during my lunch hour at work today. As you can see, it knits up very quickly. It doesn’t take a lot of yarn, either, so I’m using leftover yarn from my Bella mittens and my Burberry-inspired cowl. I need to go get some more yarn to make some as Christmas gifts!
